this with tavhorns is what he looks up to as an idol. sorry to disappoint but the ancestors are very similar to canon ancestors of the same blood colour, they just look like their new descendants and have expanded backstories.

dualscar is not remembered for who he was but how he died (fuckin landdwwellers) so most of what people *think* he was like is mostly made up and probably dripping propaganda everywhere. he was an admiral (maybe the title of commodore would be more appropriate? i don’t know navy terms very well sorry) and a lusus hunter but he wasn’t particularly notable or unique. banging mindfang the notorious pirate queen and getting executed on a whim weren’t even that unusual either, it’s just that by the point he died all the seadwellers were just fucking sick of the grand highblood running the show so dualscar got used as an example of abuse of power a lot and turned into a bit of a cult hero of sorts along the way.

kanaya at least knows he’s actually kind of average-to-lame because she has mindfang’s journal, but has avoided crushing tavros’ dreams so far. might be because she’s nice enough not to, but more likely because not holding her tongue would get her in hot water with somebody else who wouldn’t approve. (not to say that she hasn’t gossiped about it to select other people—which definitely includes sollux—because she totally has. she’s just never corrected Blatant Historical Inaccuracies to his face.)

The way I see Dualscar though he’s kind of a selfish asshole and he would never want kids in a million years. He kind of resents Eridan just for existing in the first place and gets annoyed with Eridan following him around and trying to emulate him all the time, in part because Eridan reminds him of himself in all the worst ways and he doesn’t want to deal with it. Which just gets worse as Eridan gets older because he develops into an angry, disillusioned little snot as a result especially after he realises his dad isn’t a person worth looking up to in any measure. Every time he does something good Dualscar gets mad jealous or ignores it completely because he doesn’t know how to be a parent; every time he does something bad or stupid Dualscar derides him for it and the idea that he’s got a worthless son is reinforced. Thus all of Eridan’s attention-seeking behaviour. The Ampora household would not be a happy place. ):

Also, Eridan can’t bang the princess either. He had a better chance of banging the princess than Dualscar and he totally blew it.

YEP THAT WAS ME i did it in february before we knew what mindfang’s horns looked like, or anything about dualscar’s appearance at all. this is an updated version!! i fixed the hands, mindfang’s shoulders and other misc things because whenever i saw this picture reposted i’d die a little on the inside, and i still hate it but it’s… better than it was? i hope??

i kept the horns + hazel irises because they are relics of WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN, though. and i have no idea why i kept both pictures together in the original png. i also forgot to put a signature on them again but i don’t think it’s too hard to tell who drew it, even though my style has changed in the past year. 4chan would be able to source it right away, anyway.
