Oh, yeah, they sent me an email about that earlier in the month. They are allowing people to download a .zip file of everything posted to their account before it goes down, so everything I wrote is safe on my hard drive (circa about 2 minutes ago). Thank you for sending a reminder or else I might have forgotten to do it, haha. They are .html files and I am not really sure how I’d make them available again to read, I guess I’d need to copy + paste all that stuff into a google doc or something?

if there is a human culture (past or present) that works like this i don’t know of it. matriarchal systems and heavily gender-segregated systems certainly exist in real life of course, i just couldn’t tell you anything about them or if they are similar to what i have.

i derived it mainly from elephant society, with shades of crow and macaque. i just think elephants are really neat. the aesthetics are ofc a pastiche of human cultures, there’s no real way to get around that—there is a lot of mongolia & china in there, with japan’s isolationist tendencies—and i tried to cut a big enough swath that it doesn’t resemble one in particular too much, but kept it firmly tied to that corner of the globe. most of the flora and fauna i use is native to those areas too unless i think they are too cool not to include.

the technology is similar to the mid 19th century because that was a really exciting time in science that led to a lot of good and a lot of really terrible things. it was also just a period of change for many countries the world over (ex. meiji era in japan). i’d also like them to have photography and typewriters and that’s when both of those devices were invented.

i don’t know how they would use typewriters since i’ve always thought of them having a writing system that looked like mongolian script and i don’t think an early typewriter would be capable of emulating that. i guess they might use a different sort of alphabet for printed letters but i don’t know what that would look like. i also considered an alphabet like hangul because i think it’s neat how it came about but idk.

“marriage” is a relatively new social/government institution that came into effect in order to track family lines. there are extensive genealogical records going back several hundred years with notes about the health and cause of death of most individuals located in a huge records library in the capital, and most towns and rural villages also keep their own library containing documents about the people who live/d there. there are government census people who make rounds every year to update these records. people take this shit really seriously, it is very important to them to know where you came from and where your hypothetical kids might be going. if this sounds like eugenics, you’re right, it is eugenics. after the bleeding disorder epidemic blew up and it became clear the disease was passed down through family lines, this was their ethically questionable solution to the problem, and it became deeply ingrained into society. despite this they still don’t know a lot about genetics; technology has improved significantly but they are still stuck in old faulty theories that no one is going to try to disprove.

people are free to love whoever they want to, and love as many people as they want to, and none of it’s stigmatized. most people are still monogamous, or at least serially monogamous, and go mainly for the opposite sex, but doing things differently is ok. what does matter is if you have kids with that person because that’s when your bloodline and its reputation comes into play. often marriage partners love each other or at least like each other a lot as friends but love isn’t synonymous with marriage at all. you marry someone when you have a kid with them (not before, after—there has to be living proof that you did the thing and got a viable result) and that gets written into the records when the census guys come knocking. that’s all, that’s the whole thing. the oldest siblings are usually under a lot of pressure to marry well, but for the youngest it’s not as much of a social obligation. all this can have some unfortunate results but this post is getting too long so i won’t talk about them here.

there’s no wedding type of celebration, that usually gets wrapped up with the birthday ceremony. there is a variation of a summer festival in most places that is like a week-long valentine’s day but that is for romantic bonds not marriage bonds. senda marriage couples continue to live apart and the mother and her family take care of her child although the father usually still has a hand in raising them. deadbeat dads are still pretty maligned. akashi are closer to a standard nuclear family though. a lot of people think couples living together is weird

pretty much exactly the same, just more pointy and masculine. and gaunt. that one was probably better at conveying the neurotic aspect of her personality but that isn’t a big loss since i think it comes through anyway with body language/wild hand gesturing. i also changed her eye colour from dark grey to brown because i felt like it, but everything else including clothes is the way it’s been forever. (i actually can’t change the clothes, she still has to wear manly dark solid colours/two-tone patterns as a girl because that’s how you roll in a trade house.)

this question confused me for a second because i thought i had a picture on tumblr?? but it was just the back of the head. which i think i did on purpose because for some reason i could never get it quite right, even though she is like an 8 or 9 year old character and her appearance has actually changed very little. the biggest change since conception i think has been going from a black/blue/gold colour scheme to blue/black/red (which coincided with getting upgraded from poorly-thought-out minor antagonist to hero of the story). either way she is like two billion times easier to draw now and i don’t know why.

i’ll probably draw older brother sometime so you will kind of get to see what she used to look like, although he won’t be exactly the same because different personality

The last time I played Kanaya turned into a fire truck. It’s actually a bad, game-breaking glitch that apparently signifies that the character data is corrupted, but I didn’t save and I think I will restart if/when I go back to Trollhaus anyway (I want to install seasons and maybe Supernatural for BEEKEEPING, and for them to live in poverty again, but I’ll port most of the things I can over to the new save) so corrupted data in this instance doesn’t matter that much.

Everyone likes to steal Aradia’s truck. I gave everyone their own personal bike for them to use so that they would stop doing it, but they all still prefer vehicle theft. Someone has usually pocketed it when she has to go to work, so it’s usually Aradia who ends up biking. I think it’s because her truck is purple with dinosaur print. Who would not want to be seen driving around in this.

Anyway Kanaya went on a joyride with a few people and got stuck in the middle of the fucking thing. Everyone else got out as usual, but she didn’t. At first I thought she’d just parked it really badly, but she was actually attached to it.

I noticed this when she got up from her chair and went over to talk to Sollux (who is ordering a girly drink from this outdoor bar while he is supposed to be working?? That is his stupid tweed jacket he wears instead of proper ghostbuster uniform) and she RAN HIM OVER INSTEAD

I ACTUALLY HAVE FOOTAGE OF HER RUNNING PEOPLE OVER BUT IT IS BAD QUALITY BECAUSE I USED THE SIMS MOVIE THING AND IT DIDN’T SAVE THE HILARIOUS VROOM NOISES THE TRUCK MADE WHENEVER IT MOVED

I tried to make her do a lot of things that I hoped would get her out of the truck but it did not work. That includes talking to people, going in elevators, going in houses, pocketing the truck and deleting it, woohooing (I’m sorry). Usually she could get away from it for a few seconds, but it would teleport to her again. The truck model FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT when she did the horizontal tango, it was the scariest thing, I immediately regretted it. And then when I pocketed + deleted the truck, the truck did not disappear. Instead she became the truck, her model standing motionless in the parking space, and the truck became her. I could click on the truck and make it wash dishes. I think if I wanted to I could have probably made someone sit on Kanaya’s head and drive really fast, but by that time I’d read that this glitch meant the file was totally, irreparably fucked and I was freaking out.

I still don’t know why the glitch victim is always Kanaya.

I’m still alive and here, I just haven’t drawn anything worth posting in like, a long time. I think this tends to happen around times when I get weeks off. I just don’t do anything. The more free time I have the less I do.

These guys are mixed blood corsairs and they are here only because this is the most recent thing I have done and I want to have at least ONE picture post in February even if it just busts of ocs. Also because otherwise this would have been another short shitty text post.

Yeah, they are just regular people. Any natural descendants living present day will die with the rest of Alternia because they cannot form that creation loop (they have a grounded parent) and they can’t hitch a ride like Dad did on another session (there is only one session in a scratched universe, and Bloodbent is not 12 actual characters + Sock’s hypothetical surprise fantroll). They lead a kind of nebulous existence to anchor the ancestors a bit closer to earth and to give a sense that there were more people out there, but mainly it’s because of a throwaway line in canon about the Empress killing off a bunch of heirs, or something that could be interpreted that way anyway. And if the Condesce had natural descendants it kind of stood to reason that some of the others probably did too, especially when our first introduction to them was Mindfang describing her uh, adult relationships.

I wouldn’t say trying to keep to the canon is “destroying” anyone’s work, but I think it’s kind of sad that so many people are so… religious about it, and are so anxious about keeping strictly to the doctrine as dictated by fandom’s interpretation that it ruins their entire experience. I follow Rumminov and she gets a ton of questions about fantroll creation that are basically just asking her permission to make a character that falls outside canon’s limits, or making sure that they are right about some little fact so that nobody judges them for it. And they’re really emotional sometimes! I don’t know if they’re just young or if they have been stung by really petty, really entitled individuals trying to protect the sanctity of noted beloved webcomic Homestuck (I wouldn’t doubt this is actually the case at times knowing this fandom), but dang. You guys, it is not serious business. You can bend the rules or break them if that is what you want to do. It is a thing for fun. You are allowed to have fun and not worry about authenticity, especially if you created it before the comic proper shot it down.

With derivative work you do need to stay faithful to the dogma in some respect so that your thing is still recognisable—there is such thing as straying too far from the symbols, tones and themes of the original to the point where it bears little to no resemblance—but you can still change things to suit what you want to do with it. People who let themselves have no free rein tend to end up with really boring stuff that they don’t even like because it lacks their personal touch. I’ve been there before. It really sucks.

That being said, my AU has its birthday on February 16, 2011 (as in the day I really started posting this stuff, the “real” one when I started the story is May 5th) so, four days away from being two years old, I’d say it and the biology manifestos connected to it are very safely grandfathered in. It is a relic, and you don’t fuck with relics. I think I managed to guess a lot of things that were later canonised, so the stuff I have done isn’t terribly off the mark. Whether it is in line with fanon & the extra information or not I don’t know and I couldn’t care less though lmao.

no. a codpiece is armor for your crotch, it isn’t just a thing you put on over your pants to make your dick look bigger. and it will be kept the way it is in homestuck prime, because ridiculous codpieces are a lot funnier than lingerie and i don’t want like, real gratuitous fanservice in my au. it’s not going to happen ever sorry. if kanaya ever gets anything remotely similar to a bustier, it will not be a bustier, it will be a legit breastplate as part of a complete nonsexy suit of armor that is sturdy and reliable yet fashionable. trolls all have the same genitals anyway so if the guys have a thing like that (they dont) so would the girls.

i don’t think they would recognise it as genitals, just as a weird oblong thing that is very fun to bother other people with. provided a) kanaya ascends and b) pieces of god tier costumes can be alchemized, at one point they will probably make hundreds of copies of it and flood somebody’s room with them.
