ipgd:
before i go to the dry cleaners i have a couple of mandates for you that i expect to be followed to the letter immediately and by everyone
1. can we please stop distinguishing the kids by ‘beta/alpha’ ??? not only is it extremely unintuitive and confusing given the deliberately backwards nature of the software testing stage designation, it conflicts with the established in-story use of the terms to refer to the alpha timeline and its doomed splinters. now when people say ‘alpha dave’ i am frequently confused as to whether it’s referring to alpha timeline dave or the adult dave who lived in universe B2
literally any other use of terminology would be better than this, e.g. o[riginal]Dave vs. r[eset]Dave, B1 Dave vs. B2 Dave, etc. why has the fandom latched onto the most horrible system possible, and will it please stop
2. shades prick is the best fan name for dirk’s autoresponder and everyone needs to use it until it’s canonized, thanks
OH GOD THIS HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME TOO not like on any meaningful level but WHY DID U CHOOSE THAT THING WHEN THIS OTHER THING IS SO MUCH BETTER…
ALSO WHY DOES EVERYONE CALL AUTORESPONDER AR?????? theres already an AR!!! and hes GREAT why isnt there more Real AR appreciation. not to be a Snobby Carapace Fan or anything though i mean autoresponder is great too. not a character in homestuck i dont love
A1/A2/B1/B2 was the system introduced in the comic proper and it’s super easy to keep track of. like you could even say “A1 mindfang” and everyone would know you’re talking about aranea but if you said “beta mindfang” who the fuck is beta mindfang. the troll session didn’t even have the alpha/beta designations. anyone who knows literally anything about software development knows the alpha version comes before the beta version which makes everything EXTRA CONFUSING.
hussie’s way is so easy and simple, why are we not using it??
reblogging this again because its still relevant
With the trolls it gets even worse because ‘beta trolls’ is often used to refer to the A2 trolls, the trolls we saw...
Yeah, I refer to them differently, because they are different people. I usually try to specify which version of “alpha”...
I always thought that the Alpha/Beta termology was according to the game, the Beta kids being Dave, John, Jade and Rose...
No you’re right, that’s why people refer to them as alpha versus beta kids… John and co. play the beta version and Jane...
I agree with this MOSTLY, except in the canon, don’t they refer to John’s copy of sburb as a beta version? Like it’s in...
Yeah, I’m still confused why the Sburb alpha came after the sburb beta. Unless somehow it didn’t. I’m not even sure...
what pumpkin is not helping i just saw someone referring to the post-scratch universe as the alpha timeline
I will try to keep this in mind.
