sometimes i draw things, and sometimes they might be kind of okay, but don't count on it.

currently it's mostly mspaintadventures fanart where i go by sock/sockpuppy and also maybe original characters thrown in the mix, because i have some of those.

i’ve always wanted to do something with nudibranches!! they are undeniably one of the most beautiful things ever. but karkat’s wings are actually derived from the underside of the much drabber-looking horseshoe crab. i think it’s more obvious when both are in view (i also fucked up drawing them in that other picture, he should have had six points on the lower lobe, not five, whoops):



with some modification to make them look good as wings and fit in with the rest ofc, like splitting the tail, rounding the tips and misc lines/circles. an earlier version was a lot more literal and recognizable as this animal but it looked kind of shitty and weird when you actually put them on.

I DON’T THINK I NEED TO SAY WHY THEY’RE LITERALLY PERFECT FOR THIS especially since i linked an article up there about them but they ARE OK. They literally have blue blood and it’s used in cancer therapy and research (google specifically names leukemia [blood cancer] and prostate cancer [guess where his last name comes from]). their mating rituals literally entail long walks on very specific beaches in the moonlight. THE MALES ARE LIKE HALF THE SIZE OF THE FEMALES. and they are called horseshoe crabs. there is no better fit for a blue karkat.

some people think they kind of look like ugly brainsuckers but omg no they are peaceful and pretty friendly for arthropods and their behaviour is so cute. i tried to find this one youtube video of one spinning in circles on the beach because it’s really adorable, but i guess it’s gone because i can’t find it. ): i did find this one of a baby crab running around and being flipped over in someone’s hand while looking for it though.

as an aside, aradia’s wings are based on the wings of the spiny flower mantis. mostly because they’re pretty, but they also look like they have a 9 on them (if maroon is 0, indigo is 9 on the hemospectrum, and she’s got 0s in her canon wings) and the lower wing lobes spread out like fans. not really much stuff backing hers. they just looked nice.
