Is that a sabre Kanaya is holding
it’s about 10% curved blade and 90% bullshit anime clock hand sword. there’s two of them, they’re called the revisionists. they have a short time rewind ability of a few seconds, and they cut things very nicely.
formally her weapons of choice are talwar but i cannot really classify these abominations as a real sword type.
isnt this just your dark souls strategy
i’m not a minmaxed glass cannon, i can take some hits
and my strategy doesn’t involve getting hit a lot on purpose
but yes basically this is how i play video games minus the i do it to impress girls thing
make sure your killing blows are cool and unreasonably risky to pull off, and also make sure that shes looking at you while you do it. do this for every monster you fight even if it is a miniboss. die a lot but think youre invincible
this is about 5 asks congealed into one picture, satisfying nobody.
you did it. im so proud of you.
i have one that’s better but i’ve gotten too shy to post it. at first i was like “this can’t be too hard, i’m going to make like, fake character cards for everyone i feel comfortable drawing, with the bunny ears and everything” but i did tomo and it took 5 or 6 hours over the course of 2 days so i gave up on the rest. but i still got this one
and i might as well post it
i totally did nail the cucumber quest style at least once though. i did it. i really did it
Cucumber Quest is great and deserves a huge pulsating fandom like Homestuck has (had?). so what would your characters/bloodbent characters be like if they were from Dreamside? Gamzee has a strong...herbal theme going on there, and Kanaya seems like she could fit into the Melody Kingdom, but that's all I can think of. it would be a lot easier if there were a bird kingdom.
i have been trying to draw this for 9 days and every time i try i get farther and farther away from the style. i tried my own people first and after succeeding twice i couldn’t get it right anymore. i think i did learn things doing this since i do not ever do lineless and i’ve gotten out of practice with colours and also everything else, and i have realised now that i perpetually overthink things. lineless is fun though
au of an au is getting a bit out of hand so i’m just going to leave a failed attempt at nepeta thats like 20% cucu and 80% bad
this is a better, cleaner design with nicer shoes than the one i’ve used up until now, so i am keeping it this way.
e: i do love cucumber quest and i think everyone should read it but i really hope it doesn’t become the next homestuck haha. homestuck was a bit of a monster. i am glad people are making fan music for cq like they did with homestuck though, i think that’s really cool.
Does Corvus exist in the same universe as Down, as in, are the pantheons the same?
No not at all lmao, they are completely separate and tonally incompatible. The protagonists of Down lived in a vaguely defined big city somewhere in North America, which I kind of imagined to look kind of like New York, but I am not familiar enough with New York to commit to it. There’s like 0 precedent for a country like Canada or the States to ever exist in Corvus’ world. I guess the pantheons are kind of similar in that they both have probably millions of gods and the most story-important gods are both women associated with early deaths but the similarities kinda end there. They’re opposites in a lot of ways.
The pantheon in Down was more… corporate? There was a Heaven where all the gods hung out, the mortal world, and the Underworld where all the dead would get processed and either reincarnated and sent back or ascended into Heaven (and presumably start their drudge work as a new god). The Demiurge was originally assigned to a position completely unrelated to death but got demoted to a lonely pocket in the Underworld as a time out for bad behaviour. She initially hated it and did her best to half-ass everything and cause minor annoyances upstream, but got such a huge kick out of the newly dead thinking she was the God she decided to play the part. There’s probably a few other Underworld paper pushers doing the same thing but she is just the best at it. She is the supernatural equivalent of that weird angry kid who’d sit alone at lunch tailoring elaborate revenge fantasies for each person in the class who didn’t want to be friends with them. She has had a lot of experience in scheming and a lot of experience in having no friends, but like, sometimes people don’t have friends for a reason, and in this case it’s because she’s a completely unrepentant toolbox.
Sometimes I still think about this character because Corvus doesn’t have anyone I could really call a villain, and also doesn’t have anyone who is petty to this extent and I love pettiness
I don't know if you are still taking webcomic refs but Stand Still, Stay Silent is one of my favorites that I've come across recently, maybe you will also like it?
I can’t believe it updates 4 times a week with this quality of art?? That’s incredible. It is taking a while to really get rolling, but it seems very interesting (not just because it’s a plague story) and I really like the character designs. This might be a comic that was made for me. thank u anon i am adding this to my list
im always up for recs especially if theyre gems like this
webcomics u read???
Here’s the ones I read that are ongoing and still updating (most of them update at least once a week too) in no particular order:
Cucumber Quest (#1 in my heart), Bad Machinery, Gunnerkrigg Court, Paranatural, Poppy O’Possum, Vattu, Monster Pulse, Nimona, The Abominable Charles Christopher (best read archivally imo), Broodhollow, A Ghost Story, O Human Star, TJ & Amal, Unsounded (on end-chapter hiatus, will resume March 31), Love Me Nice (updated whenever the author has time in her schedule)
The last five are labeled NSFW but so far A Ghost Story and Love Me Nice (iirc) don’t actually have anything I’d consider NSFW in them. The others definitely do—O Human Star and especially TJ & Amal have The Sex, Unsounded has some really gory parts and the occasional uncovered boob—but I think they use these scenes well and it doesn’t feel gratuitous. Broodhollow is a horror comic but I honestly don’t remember if there as anything NSFW in it at all, but I don’t think there was.
Bobwhite is a slice of life comic about art college kids from the same author as Monster Pulse, which she finished before moving onto Monster Pulse. I found Pandemonium/Wizard Village after it ended but it’s good. Hemlock might still be going on but I am not sure, and same with Necropolis, which is too bad because it is/was only getting started. The Meek is almost certainly defunct, but I think what’s there is still worth reading. Witchy and Brainchild are new comics that look really interesting. I know I’m forgetting some lmao because I don’t check up on them as often/they don’t show up in my tumblr feed. IT’S HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF THEM ALL I READ A LOT OF WEBCOMICS
EDIT: Other comics!! Judecca (occasional NSFW), Lucky Penny/Johnny Wander, Kill Six Billion Demons, Sakana, Manly Guys Doing Manly Things (will also read Platinum Black when it goes live), String Theory
updated webcomic list with more webcomics, bringing the total to 28.5 webcomics i read regularly. i am definitely still missing some because there are a few i forget about for months and then binge them. i remembered just now that octopus pie is one of those and that i need to catch up on it.
thanks to beesmygod for reccing judecca to me, i didn’t know about it when i made this list but it’s really good
im curious since it's not really seen well, but what are the quirks for all the blood bent characters like Eridan and Equius and others that haven't been seen typing yet?
Actually, I think everyone’s at least had one line. Equius has a few lines in partychat even though he’s pretending to be away. Karkat and Eridan are in a semi-secret linked in the second-to-last update. All the girls plus Tavros are in partychat, Sollux and Gamzee got their own conversations. Am I missing anybody?
For the hard-to-find guys, they’re pretty much identical to canon. Eridan is still droppin gs and has nocaps but doesn’t have the doubled vv/ww (both seadwellers do it, but Sollux normally won’t just because I don’t want to make his dialogue even more annoying to read). Equius talks the same but has the bow replaced with a shovel, |—D. I know what emoticon it resembles. I feel like that was the joke in the original too, but Hussie hid it more than I bothered to. In the Secret Karkat types normally but with a tendency to TYPE IN CAPS TO EMPHASIZE SOMETHING—that’s not normal Karkat, the Karkat you’d see in conversations would be typing in ALLCAPS like usual, but for this he is trying (not very hard, but trying nonetheless) to seem like he could be Not Actually Karkat Vantas. It’s pretty see-through, and everyone knows it’s him writing that column, but since outing him would require that they admit they follow him and also have written to him anonymously with serious dumb questions, there is a sort of mutual understanding to never talk about the blog to anyone. Nepeta is probably the only one without anything to lose because all she does is troll him, but she doesn’t want it to end, and she gets a lot of dirt on the others this way.
